Project Overview
This remodel in Watertown, though modest in size, presented significant challenges due to strict Historical Society regulations. Despite these constraints, we stripped the addition down to the original 2x4 framing, widened the interior walkway opening, replaced all windows, installed insulation, and updated the siding and PVC trim. The result is a fully modernized space that respects the historic character of the property while improving functionality and durability.
Working within Historical Society regulations requires a delicate balance between modernization and preservation. Every material choice and structural modification needed approval to ensure the addition maintained its historic integrity while meeting contemporary building standards and the homeowner's functional needs.
By stripping the addition to its original framing, we were able to address hidden issues and upgrade the structure comprehensively. The widened walkway opening improves flow and accessibility, while new windows, insulation, siding, and trim enhance energy efficiency and durability—all while maintaining the aesthetic harmony required in this historic neighborhood.
